Principal’s Message

Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,

Wow, it was so exciting to see our 5th grade Arroyo students’ STEM Fair projects last Monday night.  Our students received many awards and our school had the most STEM Fair entries across the district. Here is a list of the projects that were submitted:

  • Quinn Dugas & Jack Spottiswood – Cookie Chemistry
  • Ben Solon- Shooting for Success
  • Sonya Kothari- The Effect of Weight on the Speed of Boats
  • Christine Chang- Do People Read the Fine Print?
  • Dylan Karmin- Fastball Physics
  • Abigail Edwards- Lipgloss
  • Lena Chow- Are Fingerprints Similar Between Siblings?
  • Victoria & Joanna Nelson- Purple from the Sea
  • Sierra Kitching, Lucia Kitching & Lily Henry- Correlation Between Attitude and Aptitude in Math
  • Quinn Olson- How High Will It Fly?

This week our 4th grade ROPES presentations will take place on Monday-Wednesday night at CMS. I will be on the judging panel on Tuesday night.  I can’t wait to see what our 4th graders have done and to  celebrate all of the hard work that our students have put into these projects!

We also have some wonderful in-school projects taking place.  I’ve been approached by a number of students who are bursting with excitement to tell me about their Public Service Announcements that they are working on to make the world a better place.  This is part of a PBL that is shared across 4 classes that is focusing on simple acts of courage. And the whole 4th grade team of teachers are putting the finishing touches on their ‘Math Olympics’ classes. I get to host a ‘math event’ as well.  I can’t wait!

And we have many new clubs that the students have proposed.  This is in addition to the great work that they are doing in the many leadership roles that they are also taking on.  We are buzzing with excitement for all the opportunities that the students are taking on. And although there is so much excitement, your children are also very focused on their core content and their work is paying off with the growth that we are seeing in work.  I couldn’t be prouder of our amazing students!

Go Eagles!

Upcoming Dates to Keep in Mind:

  • February 5-7: ROPES presentations
  • February 7: PTA meeting (7:00 pm)
  • February 7-15: SCEF Online Auction
  • February 12-13: Student-Run Used Book Fair
  • February 19-23: President’s Week Holiday, No School

Central Arroyo PTA Reflections Contest

Thank you again to all of our students who submitted entries for this year’s Central Arroyo PTA Reflections contest “Within Reach” at the school level.

Our category submissions were evaluated by the San Mateo County District 17th District PTA level judges who reviewed 120 entries in all. The judges were thrilled to see the level of creativity among the submissions. The Award of Excellence went to the best ranked entry in each arts category for each grade division, and those entries have been forwarded to the California State PTA for state-wide judging. Results will be announced in late March, and all entries will be returned to school offices by late May.

Recipients of the Award of Merit (2nd) or Honorable Mention (3rd) will be displayed at the 17th District PTA’s Founders Day Luncheon on Monday, February 26th at Dominic’s at Oyster Point. All PTA members are invited to join the luncheon. For those who are just interested in viewing the Reflections entries, please plan to come early at 11:00 a.m. and leave prior to the start of the buffet.

In late March, artwork will be delivered to the school offices, after which it will be returned to the winners, accompanied by a certificate and ribbon from 17th District PTA.

Congrats again to all our talented creative students and our Arroyo School winners below!

  • Lydia Rak – 5th gr – Dance “Anything is Within Reach if You Put in Work” – Excellence (1st place, moving to CA State competition)
  • Christine Chang – 5th gr – Literature “Behind” – Merit (2nd place)
  • Cayla Chen – 5th gr – Visual Arts “Apple Within Reach” – Honorable Mention (3rd place)
