Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,
This week we will participate in the national ‘Screen Free Week’, which incidentally coincides with national ‘Children’s Book Week’! Here is a link to the organization that promotes Screen Free Week: http://www.screenfree.org/. Their organization states,” Plan to unplug from digital entertainment and spend all that free time playing, reading, daydreaming, creating, exploring, and connecting with family and friends!” Please be aware, that the focus is really on times out of school, when kids tend to use digital devices largely as sources of entertainment and communication (although, we will also work to reduce the use of screens where we can in the classroom). To help with ideas about what to do, our wonderful ‘House of Representatives’ leadership team has worked with Mrs. Dimas to develop a Bingo card that can be used at home. Please sign off on the squares that your child completes. We will have prizes for ‘Bingo’ and ‘Blackout Bingo’ just to make it more fun. Also the students came up with a Spirit week as well. Here are the dress up ideas for the week:
- Monday: Let’s Get Creative with Crazy Hats and Wild Hair
- Tuesday: Get Ready to Go Back in TIme with Backwards Clothes
- Wednesday: Celebrate the 80s (a time before cell phones) with 80s Clothes
- Thursday: Dress Like a Favorite Character from a Book
- Friday: Get Cozy and Read with PJ Day
Let’s have a lot of fun with this week-long focus. I hope that you enjoy some of the ideas that we have suggested on the Bingo sheet (this will go home on Monday if it did not already go home!) to support alternatives to the plugged in lifestyle that surrounds all of us!
