Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,
We are going to try out something new this week. Since the beginning of the school year we have had Tuesday assemblies in Mustang Hall for about 20 minutes, at the start of the school day. These assemblies have provided a way to share announcements & updates, review school rules, share the weekly focus for Social Emotional Learning, recognize birthdays and remind students about the culture we are creating at Arroyo. Now that we are in the 3rd trimester, we are going to move away from these weekly assemblies and only hold them once a month in Mustang Hall. What we will do instead is launch ‘Arroyo Moves!’ on Tuesday mornings. We will still make announcements, updates, etc. when the bell rings, but we will do this outside, as we line up in our evacuation drill line up area. We anticipate that this will take a lot less time since we will not need to enter and exit Mustang Hall, which amazingly takes a fair amount of time for an entire school to file in and out of that space!
So what is Arroyo Moves!? Starting at 8:10 am on Tuesday morning we will encourage all students and any interested family members to get some early morning exercise and walk (or jog) around the black top. We’ll bring out our speaker and play some music to make it more fun. We will probably add other fun pieces as we go, with students helping to take a lead in this. It looks like the weather will cooperate, so I hope that you will consider joining us. We will encourage anyone who arrives early to participate in this weekly activity. To keep it safe we will not have the ball room open for that one morning because we don’t want any stray balls to knock into our Arroyo Moves! participants. When the bell rings, instead of going to class, the students will line up at their evacuation drill lines for some announcements. We hope to see you at Arroyo Moves! on Tuesday morning!
On a related note about fitness, the 5th grade students recently were presented with information about the 5th grade Physical FItness Test (this is a statewide assessment). Here is a link to the slides that were shared with them. Our students will complete the PFT assessment in mid-May. Here’s to all of our health and fitness!

Honorary Service Awards – Who is your Super Hero?
Since 1935, Central Middle School has recognized parents, teachers, staff, community leaders, and organizations for their outstanding service to our schools with the Honorary Service Award. Now we are one combined PTA – Arroyo and Central so this year’s awards will be the first time we are included. We all know special people who enrich our children’s lives, provide outstanding service to Arroyo, or have made a significant contribution over the years. Please help us to honor them for their outstanding service with your nomination for an Honorary Service Award. Please email your nominations to email@example.com by Friday, March 31st.

Due to a lack of access to high school track and field space in the area, we are scheduling practices at Burton Park, Central and Tierra Linda. In the past couple months we have been working with the high schools around the area to reserve track times on Sundays but we have been unsuccessful. In the event we are unable to reserve high school track space, we will make the best out of our practices by hosting them on our middle school campuses and local parks.
