Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,
We are looking forward to a full week of learning with the students this week. Your children are now busily engaged in learning the content of their grade level. It’s been wonderful seeing the students reading their novels during Reader’s Workshop time and starting to write ‘flash drafts’ of their first writing assignments. They have also been digging into their Math in Focus lessons, applying their prior knowledge to new concepts. And they are actively engaged in all of the exploratory/elective classes and physical education. They are all doing such a great job focusing and growing as learners!
Upcoming Dates to Keep in Mind:
- September 13: PTA meeting at 8:45 in the AYO/CMS library
- September 21: Picture Day
- September 26: Outdoor Education Parent Meeting at 6:00pm in the Learning Commons (5th grade parents only)
School Site Council Request:
We are looking for at least one parent to fill a School Site Council (SSC) vacancy. Please let me know if you are interested in participating in SSC this year. We will hold our first meeting in October (the date will be determined in the next week, based on council members availability).
Please Help Us Continue Stampede & Soar – Arroyo’s Fun Run
The Stampede and Soar committee is looking for a chair to help lead this event and take it over the finish line! We know that there are many parents in our community that have natural leadership abilities. There is a detailed plan already documented by our co-chairs from last year and a ready and willing committee who has worked very hard over the summer and start of school year.
The Stampede and Soar event is no longer a fundraiser but a fun community event. We need YOU! If you are interested, please grab a friend to co-chair and contact our PTA Co-Presidents Megan Miller (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Lucrecia Boswell (email@example.com). Without your help, we may have to cancel this wonderful tradition!
(Under)Wear is the Love
Where is the love? Well, in the case of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey, we can all show the love. But how? You might think that most people who experienced the storm and its aftermath need things like money, water, clothes, or boats. All true. But one of the big things they really need is underwear. Now you’re probably thinking why would people need underwear? Well think about it. Your house was just destroyed in a storm, you may have had to swim for your life, and now you’re staying at a convention center or friend’s house, and walking around with smelly and stinky underwear (maybe even no underwear)! How comfortable would you feel (walking around, or even just being in public)? It would definitely not feel right. Show the love and help folks maintain their dignity.
New/packaged underwear for boys, girls, men or women, all sizes (even XXL) are needed. Hanes or Fruit of the Loom preferred. All donations will be sent to Undies for Everyone, a nonprofit organization based in Houston.
Hot Lunch Helpers Needed
Hot Lunch is in need of more volunteers this year and could use your help! Shifts are just 1-2 x per month for 1 hour, depending on how frequently you’d like to help. It is a great way to interact with the kids as you will be helping kids locate their pre-ordered hot-lunch in Mustang Hall. You will be there for both Arroyo’s and Central’s lunch service. The shift is: Mon, Tu & Fri from 12:05-1:05 and on Th from 11:40-12:40. (No help is needed on the Wed minimum day, although lunch IS still offered). If you are interested in helping, please contact Elizabeth Wolfe at firstname.lastname@example.org and indicate your availability. THANK
It’s easy to support quality education!
For 35 years, the San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF) has been raising funds to support vital programs at all of our schools that enrich the everyday learning experience of your child. Without the critical bridge that SCEF provides between state funding and a quality education, vital programs would not be possible or would be severely reduced. Your donation will help maintain funding for key educators and programs that keep our schools strong.
It is easy to set up a recurring monthly payment to SCEF!
Go to www.scefkids.org/donate, choose “Monthly Donation” and enter the amount you’d like to give each month.
There are 10 months left in our fiscal year. A sample breakdown is shown here:
- $50/month = $500 total
- $120/month = $1,200 total
- $240/month = $2,400 total
- $360/month = $3,600 total
Leadership Circle begins at $3,500
