Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,
Your little ones are doing such a great job being focused learners. We have been learning about mindfulness in the classroom, to help the students learn calming and focusing skills. Please ask your child about the process and the special bowl that we use to help us to focus.
The students are also starting to flex their leadership muscles as they begin to propose a variety of inclusive clubs. We have about 15 clubs that are going to be launched very soon, with more to follow as the year progresses. This week we will make posters to advertise the clubs and begin to roll them out the following week.

School Site Council Request:
We are STILL looking for at least one parent to fill a School Site Council (SSC) vacancy. Please let me know if you are interested in participating in SSC this year. We will hold our first meeting in October.

Thank you to those of you who have already donated to the PTA! We have raised half of our goal so far. If you have not contributed to our PTA budget, please consider doing so. We are asking all families to give $250 so that we can continue to offer Art in Action, the Garden, and teacher grants (among many other things!). You can donate any amount that is right for you here.
Stampede & Soar
The annual Stampede & Soar is Sunday, October 15th. Thank you to Julie Alsaegh who has stepped up to lead the charge! The deadline to register and get a free t-shirt is September 22nd at 2 pm. Please register your student here. The Stampede & Soar is free this year. We want all Arroyo and Central students to participate in this fun community building event. The first heat will be a 5K race and the second heat will be a 3K walk/jog. If you would like to buy a t-shirt for yourself or for your student’s sibling, you can do so here.
Thank you to all of the parents who signed up to be room parents this year and to Karen Laing for agreeing to be the Room Parent Coordinator again this year. Room Parents are a key link between families and classrooms. Thank you. We are still seeking one or more parents to volunteer to be room parents for Mrs. Robinson, Room 11. If you are interested, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reminder – when you sign up for escrip here, you need to search for Central Middle School PTA. We haven’t been able to update the title to include Arroyo yet, but the money earned does go to our joint PTA.

SCEF is proud to host this year’s Faculty and Friends Concert

The Book Fair is Coming
The Central Arroyo Book Fair will be held the week of October 2nd –5th for students and open the morning of the 6th for parents. 4th – 7th grade students will visit the book fair during the week with their English classroom (see class visit schedule or sign up to volunteer by clicking here). There will be a great selection of books for all grades. You can send your child to school with a check made payable to Central Arroyo PTA for them to purchase books (please note the limit they can spend in the “memo” section). We will fill in the amount spent on the check.
The Book Fair will be open before and after school, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, except on Wednesday when it will be open from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. The Family Night event will be Wednesday, October 4th, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Pizza will be served in the cafeteria from 5:30 – 7:00 pm hosted by our PTA. Also, parents are invited to join us for Bagels and Books on Friday, October 6th from 8:00 – 9:00 am for shopping with a cup of coffee and a bagel. If you can’t make it to Family Night, Bagels and Books is a great chance to do some book shopping and stock up on your holiday gifts!
We need your help to make this event a great success! Please consider signing up for a slot (or more) to help out. It is a great chance to visit with the students and encourage them to find great books to enjoy. Thank you for your support!

SMART-E’s wide variety of ENRICHMENT CLASSES (sports, music, language, arts, and more!) start this week for FALL 2017. Check out the SMART-E website, www.smartesancarlos.com, for more information.
Hot Lunch Helpers Needed!
Hot Lunch is in need of more volunteers this year and could use your help! Shifts are just 1-2 x per month for 1 hour, depending on how frequently you’d like to help. It is a great way to interact with the kids as you will be helping kids locate their pre-ordered hot-lunch in Mustang Hall. You will be there for both Arroyo’s and Central’s lunch service. The shift is: Mon, Tu & Fri from 12:05-1:05 and on Th from 11:40-12:40. (No help is needed on the Wed minimum day, although lunch IS still offered).
