Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,
We had our first evacuation drill last week and your children did an amazing job! The administrators from CMS made it a point to let our Arroyo Eagles know how impressed they were with their silent drill.
We are also almost ready to launch our student led clubs. The club leaders decided they needed one more week to prepare so we will launch next week. And we are getting ready to launch our parent led classes (Garden, Art in Action and Project Cornerstone) the first week of October. We are also very excited about our upcoming Central Arroyo Book Fair and the Stampede and Soar. Thank you for supporting these wonderful opportunities!
One BIG change that we will be making on October 4th (National Walk to School Day), will be the implementation of a new school-wide exiting routes. I have been working with our district Safe Routes to School team, including the San Carlos Police Dept. to resolve some very unsafe practices. Starting October 4th we will no longer have bike/scooter parking in the existing Arroyo Ave. space and all children will park bikes/scooters in the space by the Wild Zone. All children will exit the school at the Chestnut/ Woodland exit, unless they are being picked up in the pick up lane of the parking lot. Please watch for a separate email providing more information later today. Thank you!
Upcoming Dates to Keep in Mind:
- September 25: Outdoor Education Parent Meeting at 6:00pm in the Learning Commons (5th grade parents only)
- October 2-6: Central Arroyo Book Fair
- October 4: Walk to School Day & New exit routine for Arroyo
- October 15: Stampede and Soar
- October 23: 4th grade ROPES Orientation @ 6:00pm in Mustang Hall
- October 23-27: Goal Setting Conferences
School Site Council Request:
We are STILL looking for at least one parent to fill a School Site Council (SSC) vacancy. Please let me know if you are interested in participating in SSC this year. We will hold our first meeting in October.
Marie Crawford, Arroyo Principal
One Week until the Wild West Book Fair!
Please take a minute to look at the schedule and sign up to volunteer! We have spots open throughout the week for set up and helping children choose books.
The Central Arroyo Book Fair will be held the week of October 2nd–5th for students and open the morning of the 6th for parents. 4th–7th grade students will visit the book fair during the week with their English classroom (see class visit schedule or sign up to volunteer by clicking here). There will be a great selection of books for all grades. You can send your child to school with a check made payable to Central Arroyo PTA for them to purchase books (please note the limit they can spend in the “memo” section). We will fill in the amount spent on the check.
The Book Fair will be open before and after school, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, except on Wednesday when it will be open from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. The Family Night event will be Wednesday, October 4th, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Pizza will be served in the cafeteria from 5:30 – 7:00 pm hosted by our PTA. Also, parents are invited to join us for Bagels and Books on Friday, October 6th from 8:00 – 9:00 am for shopping with a cup of coffee and a bagel. If you can’t make it to Family Night, Bagels and Books is a great chance to do some book shopping and stock up on your holiday gifts!
We need your help to make this event a great success! Please consider signing up for a slot (or more) to help out via this link http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b4aa9a62a1-central. It is a great chance to visit with the students and encourage them to find great books to enjoy. Thank you for your support!
Funds raised from the Book Fair help support the Central Arroyo PTA. If you have any questions please contact Kathy firstname.lastname@example.org, Eileen email@example.com, Katie firstname.lastname@example.org or Cynthia email@example.com
