Principal’s Message
Hello Arroyo Parents and Guardians,
It was so wonderful to see you all at Back to School Night last week. We are off to a great start this year with your wonderful children and our dedicated teaching staff. We are also looking forward to a ‘normal schedule week’ after the Labor Day holiday.
I want to mention a few topics about social emotional learning. FIrstly, we have launched our Second Step classes that are being taught by Andrea Dimas (Arroyo counselor) to our 4th grades and Julie Jobak (CMS counselor) to our 5th grades. We are thrilled to have this program taught by the professionals! Secondly, we launched our Mindfulness classes last week that are being taught by Eva Iglesias. The kids love the 15 minute classes…so do the teachers! And lastly, I want to share that we are using PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) as a guide to our school rules at CMS and Arroyo. Our guiding principles are: Be Respectful & Kind, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. All rules and procedures that we teach fall very easily under these 3 guiding principles. It sure has helped us to teach our rules with a collective, positive vision for the children.
Have a wonderful week!
Marie Crawford, Arroyo Principal
PTA News
Thank you to all of the parents who have already donated and volunteered! We have over 130 parents who have signed up to be a volunteer at Arroyo and as of Thursday of last week, we had collected over $30K thanks to your generosity. We are on our way to our goal of $100K. Thank you!
We mentioned our new PTA funding model in the PTA message last week, in a flyer that was sent home, and in an e-mail you received from Marie last week. Thank you for trying something new with us and please give us your feedback on how you think it is going and what we can do to improve. We are asking every family to donate $250 at the beginning of the school year to the PTA to fund our terrific events and programs. We will keep you updated on our progress.
You can still sign up to volunteer for an event, a committee, a PTA position, or for classroom programs. All signups can be found here. If you have any questions, please contact us at arroyo.school.questions@scsdk8.org.
Don’t forget, our first PTA meeting of the year is September 13th at 8:45 am in the Library. Everyone is welcome.
Hot Lunch Helpers Needed!
Hot Lunch is in need of more volunteers this year and could use your help! Shifts are just 1-2 x per month for 1 hour, depending on how frequently you’d like to help. It is a great way to interact with the kids as you will be helping kids locate their pre-ordered hot-lunch in Mustang Hall. You will be there for both Arroyo’s and Central’s lunch service. The shift is: Mon, Tu & Fri from 12:05-1:05 and on Th from 11:40-12:40. (No help is needed on the Wed minimum day, although lunch IS still offered). If you are interested in helping, please contact Elizabeth Wolfe at ekwolfe@yahoo.com and indicate your availability. THANK YOU!
Box Tops for Education
It’s that time of year already! Submit your Box Tops anytime in September (prior to 9/30) in either school office. Boxtops for Education provides us with an easy way for you to help the Central Arroyo PTA. Just clip Box Tops from your favorite products, gather your Box Tops in an envelope or bag and drop them off at either school office. You can drop them off all year long but we have a submission deadline coming up in October and they do expire, so bring us what you have! We earn 10¢ per Box Top, and the Central Arroyo PTA uses the extra funds for programs like Art in Action, teacher appreciation, the Arroyo Garden, teacher classroom grants and more! Popular brands include Cheerios, Annie’s, Ziplock, Hefty, and many more.
